Chado Urasenke Tankokai SF Association Tatezomeshiki Tea Ceremony
The Chado Urasenke Tankokai San Francisco Association held its annual Tatezomeshiki New Year’s Tea Ceremony on January 28, 2024, at Kanso-san Tea Room of the Hokka Nichi Bei Kai (Japanese American Association of Northern California) located in San Francisco’s Japan Town. This tea ceremony gathering was to celebrate the New Year.
The tea ceremony was hosted by TSUJI Sona and her students. They offered three tea seatings.
KOZATO Sosei served as the teishu (host), KIMORI Sono as the hanto (assistant), and Sokei Wright was the first guest during the first seating which began at 10:00 a.m.
WATANABE Soyu served as the host, UEDA Ryosuke as the assistant, and Sokyo Tiscornia was the first guest during the second seating.
IWASAKI Soritsu served as the host, UEDA Ryosuke as the assistant, and Soei Bartlett was the first guest of the third seating.
After the tea was served, all guests, tea teachers, and students had a luncheon in Kabuki Hotel also located in SF Japantown. The day was nice and sunny, and all enjoyed each other’s company in the gentle happy atmosphere of the New Year. The guests of honor gave speeches as well as HAGIWARA Sojin, Chief of Administration of Chado Urasenke Tankokai SF Association.
Introductions of board members, new tea name recipients, and new members were made. There was also a lucky draw, and the luncheon ended with a friendly atmosphere.
