Chado Urasenke Tankokai San Francisco Association Cherry Blossom Festival (Sakura Matsuri) Tea Ceremony Demonstration

On Saturday, April 12, 2025, the Chado Urasenke Tankokai San Francisco Association held a series of tea ceremony demonstrations at Nihonmachi Little Friends in San Francisco Japantown on the occasion of the Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival (Sakura Matsuri).

This year’s demonstrations were jointly hosted on behalf of the Association by Pusic and Uramoto shachus. Soyo Pusic and her students hosted demonstrations for the first and second seatings, and URAMOTO Sokyu and her students hosted the third and fourth seatings. 

In all, more than 200 people attended the tea ceremony demonstrations that celebrated springtime, and each seating served tea and sweets to 20 guests. 

During the first two seatings, Arthur Silva served as teishu (host) and SAKAUE Sosei as hanto (assistant). Soko Liu Hase was the first guest and Soyo Pusic was the closing guest. HOSHINO Michiyo served as narrator, explaining step by step, and providing key information about the history and philosophy of chado (the way of tea) for audiences.

During the final two seatings, HAYASHI Soyu Hayashi served as teishu and URAMOTO Sokyu as hanto. The first guest was TAKAHASHI Kimiko for both seatings and the second guests were MOTOMURA Naomi (third seating) and Cecilia Yang (fourth seating). HARADA Remi served as the narrator for both demonstrations.

Notably in attendance at the fourth seating were Consul General of Japan in San Francisco OSUMI Yo and his wife Mrs. OSUMI Misao.
